A one day trip to Wonderla - Bangalore's best amusement park.

Thrill rides

My work buddies and I have been planning for a long time to take a break from work and go for a trip. Since it was next to impossible for all of us get leave on the same days, our only option was to plan a one day trip somewhere nearby. We checked out many trekking spots and resorts but it was not the right season to visit those trekking spots and none of us wanted to waste a complete day by simply sitting in a resort. So while looking for other options, our friend Raksha, who has been very keen on making this trip happen, suggested Wonderla. Though I have been Wonderla when I was working in my first company, I quite enjoyed the place and hence gave a thumbs up for Wonderla. My friends agreed as well and so all 6 of us (Gagan, Shyam,Rajini,Tahir, Raksha and I) finally decided that we were going to Wonderla.

Though most of the guys in our gang had a bike and was willing to come in it, I neither had a bike nor a licence (Yeah,I Know. Don't roll your eyes now! :-P). So we had to look for a cab for out trip and we decided that we'd just book an Uber cab. As planned, we all came to our office and then booked the Uber cab to pick us up from the Office. We took the Tumkur road and reached Wonderla in less than an hour. We had a great time on the way sharing office gossips and then making fun of each other till we reached the destination. Once we reached the destination, we paid Rs 750 which was fair amount considering that it was shared by 6 of us.

Since we reached the destination a little earlier, we had to wait for few minutes till the amusement park was opened at 10 AM. Luckily we went there on a festival and hence we had the opportunity to enjoy festivity celebrations and dance performance from the Wonderla team till the park was opened. We got our tickets by displaying our online booking IDs in the ticket counter and to our disappointment, found out that only Nylon clothings were allowed in water sports. So we had to purchase nylon shorts for everyone in the shop at Wonderla and if I remember correctly, it costed around RS 150.There were separate changing rooms and showers available for men and women and we rushed quickly to get changed and make a dash for the dry rides.

Flash tower

The very first ride we went was Flash tower  which was shoot up and drop down tower over 40 meters tall. The 40 meter drop get us all pumped up and excited or the next rides. The second ride was went was "Maverick". Just looking at the way the maverick turned in all angles made my stomach turn, but we all buckled and went on the ride. The ride really scared the shit out of us, but was good thrill for all who like thrill rides. Another high thrill ride was the "Recoil" which is reverse looping Roller coaster. We tried to cover all the rides but our plans to have lunch and go to water sports in the noon meant that we had to skip some of the dry rides. We covered all the thrill rides except for the 'Wonderla Bamba" which didn't look very scary and had to skip it due to lack of time. In the dry rides, we missed out on "hang glider", "Wonder splash" and "Crazy wagon".

Sky Wheel

We went for Wave pool and then for rain dance. By the time we came out of rain dance, it was already noon and hence we decided to have lunch and go to lazy river to take some rest before hitting other water rides. However, it was already late by the time we finished our lunch and hence we decided to skip lazy river and directly go for the rides. We went for Twisters which had a long queue. It was a fun ride, but however waiting on queue for twisters took much of our time and before we realized it was already evening. We were also feeling a bit cold already, so we immediately went and got changed and went to finish of the few dry games that we couldn't visit earlier. We went for dashing cars and then went to Sky wheel (Giant wheel) which was built on top of a 13 storey building and gave an amazing view of the whole park and the surrounding area. We were a bit scared that the would feel nauseous going on giant wheel that was located on such a tall tower but to our surprise, the giant wheel moved very slowly and and stopped when we are at the top for few minutes so that we can enjoy the view. Once we got off the giant wheel, we roamed around a bit and took selfies and sat for a few minutes to relax a bit. It was already late evening by then, so we decided to get changed and start our return trip. The changing rooms were too crowded as everyone has already started to leave the park. Once we got changed we tried booking a Uber cab but found out that BMTC buses were waiting right inside the park campus. So we boarded one of the BMTC Volvo buses that went to Silk board where I got off and my friends took another bus to Electronic city. I was dead tired by the time reached my room and went to bed directly even without having dinner. Overall it was a very joyful trip and much needed break from our work.

Trip details:

E.city to Wonderla Uber fare : Rs750

Wonderla ticket price : Rs 1,150 on weeekends but we got 25% by booking through cleartrip

Nylon shorts: Around Rs 150

Return fare in BMTC Volvo: Around RS 140

Tip: It's impossible to cover all the rides in Wonderla within a day. If you are planning on visiting Wonderla, make sure that you check the rides available and decide which ones you don't wanna miss and go for those rides without wasting time. Another thing to watch out for is the long queues in most of the rides, so plan accordingly.
